Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is a test in which the surgeon draws the fluid from any lump in the body using a fine needle. This fluid is then tested in the laboratory to find the nature of the cells in the fluid. This helps the doctor in determining whether the lump is benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). If the lump is clearly visible from the outside then the FNAC test is done without any guidance. However many lumps in the body are deeply embedded and for doing Fnac for such lumps, the surgeon would require ultrasound guidance. One of the most common uses of ultrasound guidance is in the cases of Breast Lumps. Two doctors are needed for doing an ultrasound-guided face. The Radiologist would operate the ultrasound machine and the surgeon would perform FNAC Test.
