The BERA (Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry) test examines the brain and auditory function in response to a sound stimulus. Only the interpretation and testing of the results are then performed by the Otorhinolaryngology audiology specialist. The BERA test can estimate the rate at which an auditory nerve impulse travels. The test analysis takes about an hour after that. It is an objective method for eliciting brain stem potentials in response to audiological click stimuli. In this method, electrodes are placed in the scalps to produce waves. It is used to screen newborns for hearing loss, determine auditory screening thresholds, monitor patients during surgery, determine the type and severity of hearing loss, detect auditory nerve and brainstem lesions, and develop cochlear implants. This procedure is completely risk-free and painless.
